3. Can I get a Job without a TEFL Certificate or Degree?
These days, anyone looking for a teaching job without a recognised TEFL certificate is in for a nasty shock. There are still a few countries in which unqualified teachers may find employment, but this is becoming rare. Also, unqualified teachers can expect much lower rates of pay than those who do hold a TEFL Certificate – basically they will only be offered jobs that qualified teachers wouldn't want to take.
Most reputable schools and organisations around the world now insist that their teachers hold a recognised TEFL qualification such as a CELTA or TESOL. Proper training and certification, as opposed to a BA degree, will greatly increase the opportunities open to you.
To put it simply, you wouldn't attempt to drive a car without first taking some driving lessons and gaining the necessary skills in advance. Well teaching is much the same. Like driving, if you try to 'wing it' without really knowing what you're doing, the chances are that it will all go terribly wrong.
More importantly, you should remember that most students are desperate to learn English and it's costing them a small fortune. It’s only fair that you should know what you are doing and that you can take the money knowing you haven’t just ripped them off to increase your travel funds!
BA or College Degree?
Although this is a requirement by the MOE in Thailand, and other countries, most language schools will employ teachers with or without a degree. Although this is technically illegal, the high demand for teachers has resulted in an estimated 80% of ESL teachers in Thailand working without a degree or the proper documents. This law is set to change in 2009 when all new ESL teachers will just be required to; hold a recognised 120 hour, TEFL certificate, provide a sponsor letter from a registered Thai employer and undergo a Thai cultural induction course.

4. What IS TEFL, TESOL, CELTA?
The Certificate You Gain On Any TEFL Course Will Usually Be a TESOL or CELTA
TEFL = Teaching English as a Foreign Language - Is the name of the industry which encompass two major certificates, the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) and the Trinity College CertTESOL or similar (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
TESOL = Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - A more modern term which encompasses both TEFL & TESL. All of the above are used interchangeably in practice worldwide, they all mean virtually the same. This term refers to the certificate you will receive on most TEFL courses.
A Thailand TEFL approved TEFL/TESOL courses are Ideal for beginners and experienced teachers, especially for those whose grammar isn't strong.
CELTA = Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults - A more intensive TEFL course where the qualification awarded by Cambridge ESOL, part of the University of Cambridge.
Contrary to popular believe, both CELTA & TESOL certificates are accepted comparably by most language schools and institutions around the world.

5. What about the Job placements and what are the Job prospects like in general?
All Thailand TEFL approved certificates are accepted throughout the world by reputable organisations who employ English Language teachers. This means that you will most likely secure a teaching job before, or shortly after, you complete your TEFL course.
Job prospects for suitably qualified TEFL teachers are excellent. There is a growing demand worldwide as English becomes our universal language. In every country of the world, both in business and tourism, English has become the global language used by people of every nationality to communicate. In short, everyone wants to speak English and governments around the world are positively encouraging their citizens to do so.
A Job placement is guaranteed for all Premium package graduates upon the successful completion of the TEFL course and staff at your host training centre will help you secure a position in your chosen location. You will also get a FREE lifetime membership to our Job Club which includes a daily job feed and a hot list of new jobs as they come in. This will ensure that you are able to find teaching jobs around the world for many years to come.
Please remember that all job placements are subject to an interview by the prospective employer. Due to the high number of sub standard applications ESL employers now receive by email you really must visit prospective employers in person rather than applying by email to have any hope of a receiving a reply.
To date, we have not had one single course graduate who has failed to secure a teaching position with our approved certificates.
NOTE: We can not guarantee jobs in Koh Samui or other islands due to the low number of paid teaching positions available. Most teaching jobs in Thailand are to be found in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Surrathanni, Krabi and most other provincial towns and cities. Some jobs become available in Phuket occasionally.

6. You say 'A teaching Job anywhere in the world virtually guaranteed in just four weeks' Why is this 'Virtually' guaranteed? and not just 'guaranteed'?
In some countries such as Iraq or North Korea, it may prove to be a little too challenging for ESL teachers seeking work! That aside, Its really down to how you perform at any job interview. As long as you hold a Thailand TEFL approved TEFL certificate, present yourself properly and show some enthusiasm for teaching, you wont have any problems finding a teaching job in virtually any country around the world.

However, If you arrive at a job interview late, looking like you just fell out of bed, wearing flip flops, ripped jeans, or you smell like a night on the town - the chances are you'll never get a teaching job, regardless of what TEFL certificate you hold!

We strongly advise that you should apply for any teaching job in person rather than by email or letter. It's ok to call first and get the name of the school director or head teacher then send an email. A 'Fed Ex' letter will always get more attention. On average 96% or all TT graduates, who applied in person, got offered a job after visiting just 3 language schools!

7. How do the Thailand TEFL approved courses compare to other TEFL courses?

Unlike all other TEFL organisations, Thailand TEFL's training partners consist of a select few reputable TEFL course providers. Each one has demonstrated that they can deliver professionally run courses which meet or exceed the international standards set out by the British Council.
Only a select few of Thailand's most reputable and most popular TEFL training centres qualify to join Thailand TEFL network, which means that the quality of your TEFL training is assured.
No other TEFL organisations can offer you such an outstanding platform that allows you to confidently choose from a variety of TEFL courses, with the knowledge that each one is guaranteed to provide you with both quality training and international recognition.
You will gain a fully certified TEFL (TESOL or CELTA) qualification which is internationally recognised & accepted throughout the world. We have added a comprehensive job club to our service so most graduates manage to find employment before they have even completed the course!

8. I've heard that these courses are really tough, can I really make it through?
These TEFL courses are very intensive as they contain a great deal of content in just a few weeks. However, If you approach the course with the right attitude and do your homework, you wont have any problems. You will enjoy a fun high impact TEFL course and you will gain an internationally recognised qualification for life!

Our TEFL/TESOL training centres have arranged the course schedule so that you will have most of your weekends free to relax and explore the local area.
CELTA courses are generally much more intensive and you wont really have much free time during your course.

You will also receive a FREE lifetime membership to The 'Thailand TEFL' Job Club which offers you full online support, advice on travel, visas and current Job vacancies whenever you need it.
DON’T send bulk email applications to language schools and expect a reply !
Written applications by email to the majority of schools in Europe, Asia or South America (assuming you could compile a list) are usually a waste of time as most have been let down too many times to even bother replying to emails.

The pool of traveller teachers on the spot is appropriate to the unpredictable needs of the schools in most countries, especially Thailand. Also, sending your Resume/CV to every school in the local Internet directory will most likely be fruitless. Why? Because that’s what everyone else does, and most ESL schools do not have the time or patience to go through 200 to 300 emails per day, knowing from experience that the teacher they select will probably not even turn up.

Many ESL/EFL schools have lost count of the number of teachers who have let them down at the last minute. “Due to some family/personal problems I will not be able to take up my position…etc” is the common one used!

So, the best way to find a teaching job is to get on a plane, fly to the country of your choice, and search once you get there. This can seem intimidating as many worry that they will arrive with a tight budget and not find any work, but it's the only sure way of securing a teaching job in most countries.
If you really don't fancy this option, then you may call prospective employers to get the name of the school director or the head teacher responsible for recruitment. Then, send your CV/Resume (2 x page summary) along with a personalised cover letter and recent photo by registered post to the recruiter. The next and most important step is to follow this up with a number of phone calls until you secure an interview. The Thailand TEFL job club staff will be happy to help you.
The best option is to book our Premium Plus package which includes a guaranteed paid job placement in Thailand. We can offer positions in virtually all areas of Thailand except the islands. If the beach is important to you then we recommend Krabi.

15. What about accommodation?
Accommodation is included for both Premium & Premium Plus packages only.
Following acceptance of your enrolment application, a representative from your host TEFL school will contact you to assist in arranging suitable accommodation for you. You are assured that accommodation booked through the school will be clean, comfortable and secure. Alternatively, you are free to arrange your own accommodation for the duration of your course.
We strongly recommend that you take one of our inclusive Premium packages as we guarantee the hotel standards.
WARNING: We often get candidates who attempt to find their own cheaper accommodation by themselves only to be left disappointed with the terribly low standard of the cheaper hotel options. Inevitably by the time they come back to us for help, our quality accommodation is already booked.
You won't find a better standard of clean, comfortable accommodation for the budget price we offer anywhere in Thailand...Guaranteed! If you prefer to go cheap and share your room with super size cockroaches then feel free!

16. Will this certificate get me a PAID job?
YES – our partner schools have over 2,000 graduates who are working with these qualifications all over the world.

17. Are there any added costs?
Yes, your initial visa ($50/£30), flights to and from Thailand, Insurance, living costs for the duration of your TEFL course, your travel expenses to and from the training centre and transfer to your job placement location. FLIGHTS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN ANY TEFL PACKAGE. As airfare costs change daily and our candidates come from several different countries, there is no way for us to accurately calculate a ticket price and include it in the program fee.

18. Do I need to have a BA degree to teach?
No - you do not need any qualifications to enrol on any of our TEFL Courses. Also you do not need to have a degree in order to find a teaching job in most countries. Most private language schools will employ applicants who hold a recognised TEFL certificate. Universities and government school usually require a BA degree and a TEFL certificate.

19. What shall I bring on the day?
A copy of your passport, a notebook, some pens and a positive attitude.

20. What about visas?
You should apply for a normal 60 day tourist visa at a Thai embassy or consulate before you leave home. (USD50) This visa can also be extended in Thailand for a further 30 days giving you a total of 90 days.
If you decide to stay on to work in Thailand, the school employing you should provide you with the necessary documentation to apply for a non-immigrant B visa.
If you are making the application within 21 days of the expiry date on a 60-day tourist visa, you will not have to leave the country to do this, but in all other situations you will have to make a journey to a Thai embassy or consulate in a neighbouring country to apply. A 'Visa Run' is common practice for most teachers in Thailand.
You can download your visa application forms here: United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Eire
Your purpose of visit for a tourist visa should be 'Tourist' to avoid any confusion with the consulate staff. They cannot issue a student visa for a 4 week training course and won’t issue a NIB business visa if you are training before working.
The visa process only takes a few days if you apply by registered post. Don't forget to send your passport, form, fees and a recent 'passport type' photo with the application. No pictures of you lying half naked on the beach or one with your dog.
Sponsor Letter
We will provide a sponsor letter for a 12 month business visa (NIB) only to 'Premium Plus' candidates. No sponsor letter is required for tourist visas.

21. Is There a Dress Code?
Yes and this is very important in Thailand. Each school will inform you of its particular dress code, but here are some general guidelines:
Naturally, for both male and female teachers, conservative dress is expected. Teaching is a respected profession in Thailand and as such you will want to present yourself in a respectable manner, as you will be representing not only yourself and your country, but also your school.
Female teachers are expected to wear conservative tops (no bare shoulders and no low-cut or revealing tops) and skirts that reach/cover the knees. Some schools may allow you to wear trousers, but generally they will prefer that you wear skirts. You will also be expected to wear proper footwear (heels, close-toed flats, etc).
Male teachers are expected to wear dress pants and a button-up, collared shirt. Some schools may require male teachers to wear ties on specific days or special occasions. Appropriate footwear is required (no trainers or sandals).

22. Premium Job Club
Premium Plus candidates will be provided with the contact details of our job placement co-ordinator who can arrange suitable job placements throughout Thailand. You will also get the personal contact details of up to 3 reputable employers in Thailand who are currently looking for teachers and have agreed to give top priority to applications from Thailand TEFL graduates. It is your responsibility to contact the prospective employers by telephone or in person, present yourself professionally and arrive on time at the job interview. Details will be provided during your TEFL training course
